John M. Manion, Founder and Partner
John is a founding shareholder of the firm. He has assisted clients in managing intellectual property issues for over 16 years. His practice includes counseling clients on patent prosecution, patent infringement and validity issues, trademark prosecution, litigation, licensing and transactions. He has written and prosecuted utility patents and design patents, and has supervised the preparation and prosecution of many others, both in the United States and abroad. He has litigated intellectual property disputes and negotiated settlements in a variety of circumstances.
John is registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office and admitted to practice in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Wisconsin, the United States District Court for the Western District of Wisconsin and the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. He received both his undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering and law degree from Marquette University. He is a member of the Wisconsin Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the Federal Circuit Bar Association, the Milwaukee Bar Association where he served as co-chairperson of the Intellectual Property Law Section, the Waukesha Bar Association and the Wisconsin Intellectual Property Lawyers Association where he served as Secretary / Treasurer and President. John was a member of the Board of Directors at the Marquette University College of Engineering for six years where he served as Secretary, President-elect and President. He is also a member of the Marquette University Law School Woolsack Society. He is currently listed in "Best Lawyers in America".
While attending Marquette University’s College of Engineering, John worked as a research assistant in the college’s Deburring and Surface Conditioning Laboratory. Prior to practicing law, John was employed by the Briggs & Stratton Corporation in Milwaukee, Wisconsin as a product design engineer.
